Tina Beecham

Tina Beecham is new to the Texas Beef Team in 2022, but she’s no stranger to living an active lifestyle. After her husband completed his military career, the couple retired in Cibolo, a city in the San Antonio–New Braunfels area where she enjoys being outside to garden, walk, jog and cycle.

It was in her earlier years, while growing up in Washington, D.C., that Tina became accustomed to plenty of walking in her day, and taking advantage of what the local parks had to offer. At one time, she also motivated others as a Zumba instructor.

But today, with three children grown and extra leisure time, it’s cycling that has become Tina’s true passion and the way she motivates others. Typically, Tina has been averaging about 30 to 40 miles a day on her bike, alternating from easy rides downtown to longer excursions through neighboring towns. Tina recently completed her first 100-mile ride in a single day.

Many of these miles on the bike are spent in the company of her husband, but Tina also leads female-focused rides through area greenway trails as part of Black Girls Do Bike, an award-winning, national program.

“I just try to encourage ladies to get out there, whether they can do 10, 20 or 30 miles. It’s a joy to see people grow and be active,” Tina elaborates.  “I’m inspired by anyone that goes out and moves their body for the betterment of their health.”

Tina is also the founder of Pedal SATX, a cycling informational and advocacy page.

Random Fact: I like to collect coffee mugs.

Favorite Beef Cuts:  I enjoy Ribeye and Brisket.

Favorite Beef Recipe:  A favorite dinner is Pot Roast and veggies.

Other Activities: I like to garden, read, color, and I also volunteer at the local food bank and with Earn-a-Bike,  an organization that promotes access to bicycles, bike safety and empowering people with the skills to make cycling a lifestyle.

Recent Training: I’d say that during the pandemic, I worked out more than ever before.  However, last year I suffered a medical condition and have been getting back on track with my training by doing shorter, less intense workouts that have been progressing as I get stronger. For example, where I might have been doing half marathons in the past, I am now doing 5ks.

Mantra: My favorite mantra is telling myself over and over, “I can do it, no matter how big or small.”

Reward for Fitness Goal: I enjoy a visit to the nail spa, go out for a nice meal, or treat myself to something I’d been eyeing for a while, but had put off purchasing.

Favorite Running Gear: My must-haves are earbuds, an Apple watch, and Nuun Electrolyte Drink.
