Jorgina Sanders

If you’ve ever laced up for a Central Texas race and noticed someone crossing the finish line with a contagious smile, the red Beef Team top, and flashing peace-sign fingers, there’s a good chance it was Jorgina Sanders. Based in Austin, this HR specialist, mother of three, and dedicated Beef Team member has been pounding the pavement since 2014 — and she’s not slowing down anytime soon. In fact, she was recently recognized as the Treadburner Champion for completing the most Beef Team-sponsored races in 2024.

“I cannot sit still,” Jorgina says with a laugh. “I love the running community. Races are such a great stress relief.”

After training herself for her first 5K in 2014, Jorgina skipped trying a 10K altogether and jumped straight into her first half marathon in 2015 — the Alamo 13.1. That same year, she boldly tackled her first full marathon, the San Antonio Rock ‘n’ Roll, with minimal training but maximum determination. Since then, she’s completed countless shorter races and racked up an impressive 152 half marathons and counting, with her sights set on hitting 200!

But it’s not just about numbers for Jorgina — it’s about people. She likes the challenge of a race and then sitting down together with fellow runners for good food and drink afterward. Participating in races put on by Scallywompus and San Antonio RoadRunners (SARR) are some of her favorites.  “Although I live in Austin, I do the majority of my races in San Marcos, New Braunfels, and San Antonio. There’s always such a great Beef Team turnout and plenty of encouragement,” she says.

The encouragement is mutual. Jorgina has been a proud member of the Texas Beef Team for five years and is known for her supportive spirit and positive energy. “I just love the great support from everyone. We all encourage each other,” she says. “My first Beef Retreat was a great experience, and I’m excited to experience my first Pasture to Plate event this September.”

When it comes to fueling her active lifestyle, beef is front and center. “The day before a half marathon, I always try to incorporate a Ribeye steak or burger into my meal,” Jorgina shares. “I just love a great, well-seasoned, grilled Ribeye steak.” She’s also created lasting family memories with beef at the table. “Last year, I earned my first Prime Cuts holiday roast and made it for Christmas dinner when my sister came down from Oregon. It was special to be able to share that with my family.”

As for her training style? Let’s just say Jorgina is refreshingly honest. “I really don’t train that much,” she admits. “I just sign up for the races and move to the finish.”  Along with running, Jorgina is committed to hitting the gym daily to stay strong and injury free – and sometimes her children will come along. Her new goal is to ramp it up and participate in the plank challenge at the next Beef Retreat.

From her first 5K to 152 half marathons, from Ribeyes to roast dinners, Jorgina Sanders is the kind of runner who reminds us all why we show up — not just for the miles, but for the people, the memories, and the post-race beverages with friends!
