Julie Davidson
In the quiet countryside of Clarksville, in northeast Texas, Julie Davidson has built a life full of adventure, service, and family. A dedicated rancher, business owner, and community volunteer, she has found unexpected joy in the world of running—something she never imagined when she laced up for her first 5K at 50.
Julie’s journey into running began as a personal challenge. “I wanted to do something out of my comfort zone for my 50th birthday, so I decided on a 5K,” she recalls. Terrified but determined, she completed that race (John Wayne Series 5k) and hasn’t stopped since. Four years later, she has participated in numerous races, from trail runs to half marathons. Running has become more than just exercise—it’s a way to push herself, connect with others, and set an example for her five young grandchildren. “They are my main motivation,” she says. “I want to be in good shape to keep up with them and encourage them to be active.”
Finding Community and Learning Opportunities Through Beef Team
Julie first discovered the Beef Team at the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer 5K in Bonham. Among the crowd, she spotted inspirational Beef Team member, Mary Kaplan, in her distinctive red Beef Team jersey. “I thought she was amazing, and I knew I needed a jersey like that!” she remembers. That moment led her to research the team, and soon she was hooked on the idea of a group that connected running with the cattle industry. Now in her fourth year as a member, she values the knowledge and friendships she has gained. “Through the Beef Team, I learned how the Beef Checkoff fees ranchers pay through the sale barns are allocated toward various activities including beef promotion, marketing, research, and consumer education.”
Julie also notes that learning more about the health and performance benefits of beef has been helpful including information on how many grams of protein to get per meal, various cooking techniques, and delicious recipe inspiration.
A Life Rooted in Agriculture and Giving Back
Julie and her husband, Gary, own Drilltech, Inc., a directional drilling company, and Davidson Cattle. Their farm is bustling with life, including two dogs, chickens, goats, horses, and cattle. Whether she’s working on the ranch or spending time with her horses, Sam and Roy, she embraces the responsibilities and rewards of agricultural life. “The smell of beef on the grill and lots of family around makes great summer memories,” she says of their family tradition of grilling steaks and hamburgers on the back porch.
Beyond her career and fitness pursuits, Julie is deeply involved in her community. She serves on the Chamber of Commerce for Clarksville, the Tourism Committee for Red River County, the Ladies Auxiliary at her church, and the Agriculture Improvement Association. She also channels her love of quilting into volunteer work as a certified fair judge through Texas A&M Extension, sharing her expertise by serving as the Quilt Superintendent at the Red River County Fair and Livestock Show. In addition, Julie loves working with and teaching children and for several years taught first grade and specialized reading instruction.
Strength, Resilience, and the Road Ahead
Julie’s spirit of determination extends beyond running and ranching. This year, she will participate in her third Susan G. Komen 3-day Walk, carrying a small stuffed pink flamingo in honor of her beloved Aunt Beth. “It’s a way for me to remember and honor her strength,” she shares.
During the recent Run the Line Half Marathon in Texarkana, along with other upcoming challenges, Julie stays focused with her signature mindset: “Just have fun.” She hopes to complete a triathlon one day, but for now, she’s enjoying every mile, every finish line, and every moment spent with her family, friends, and fellow Beef Team members.
“The only way I’ll keep running and biking for years to come is if I’m enjoying it,” she says. And with her unwavering passion and boundless energy, there’s no doubt that Julie Davidson will continue to inspire those around her—one race, one ride, and one step at a time.
